Cooper 58, Lubbock Monterey 20 — The Cougars outscored the Plainsmen 58-13 over the final three quarters in what was a dominating district opener at Lowrey Field.
Led by sophomore Noah Garcia, who rushed for 280 yards and a touchdown on 29 carries, Cooper finished with 433 rushing yards as a team. Xavier Wishert added 69 yards on 11 carries, while Jessus Menjivar ran for 58 and Daelin Campos for 44.
The win, Cooper’s second in a row, moved the Coogs to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in district heading into a huge 2-5A DI matchup against Lubbock Coronado this week. That game, which could decide the league title, kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Shotwell Stadium.
